Accuracy of Book Profile

Yes, the book profile is pretty accurate in reflecting the narrative. The logline does negate the beginning by starting off that Anthony is an established priest when the first part of the book is child as mentioned in the short summary. The development pitch talks about how to market the book and the next volumes, however it might be better suited to show the themes of the story and focus on the singular narrative and why it is unique compared to other exorcism media.

Draw of Story

Tony has a young child being followed by demons and no one believing him despite the escalating circumstances has a lot of tension and to see the same pattern repeat itself in the Stout family creates the same feeling.

Possible Drawbacks

The origin story of Tony and then the transition to Anthony as a priest feel like two different stories. Either focusing on the Stout exorcism or Tony's spiritual journey as a child might better help the narrative to feel more cohesive rather than like a story and its prequel.

Use of Special Effects

Primary Hook of Story

The hook is that Tony is tempted by demons and then learns to control them so well that he is given a call from God to take up the cloth and continue is exorcisms professionally.

Fanbase Potential

This may have a decent fanbase of religious horror movie fans or those that appreciate exorcisms in thrillers as the storyline is within those genres.

Awards Potential

Due to its religious and horror affiliations this is unlikely to get noticed for prestige awards.

What’s New About the Story

The originality of the story stems from the religious focus on exorcism the demons rather than the supernatural spectacle. Focusing more on the unique mythos of the watchers and the angels aspect would make the demon story more unique.

Lead Characters

Antony is steadfast in his faith, strong and vulnerable at times. Rae is supportive and naive. Christina is innocent and sassy.

Uniqueness of Story

This has a good foundation of innovative mythology and a religious focus, however the side characters are not as developed to maximize emotional investment.

Possible Formats

Film: Streaming, Indie, Studio

Analyst Recommendation

While the story has many positive points, it has room for improvement (see possible paths below). If you can't change the story at this point, my suggestion is using your notes as a guide to highlight the best aspects of it when taking the next steps, either putting a pitch page together, a treatment, or a presentation.

Tips for Improvement

Adding more surprising elements and setbacks to the adult Tony's story would help retain the tension of the pacing. Current Tony is already proven too good at saving people from demons outside of the slip up where the officer shoots Julia. The side characters besides Tony's mom do not have a lot of insight or their own inner conflicts so making them more dynamic and flawed would help create more investment in saving them from the exorcism as well as vary their reaction to the strange happenings.
