About The Author

The Valleys Below is the story of a confounding friendship---loving, rude, deceitful and forgiving amidst the environment of San Fernando Valley, California beginning in the 1960’s during the Vietnam War. The novel opens with the disappearance of a friend the day when the World Health Organization declared the Coronavirus a pandemic. The narrator, Joshua Gold, a Jewish man in his 60’s looks back on his tumultuous five-decade relationship with his Gentile friend, Vince Jackson, and controversy about their MIA friend in Vietnam. Told in alternate time frames we learn about their relationship with the background of Los Angeles and its changing scenery from 1969 to the present. Inspired by Elena Ferrante's Neapolitan novels including My Brilliant Friend, my novel is told through a male lens of boys turning into men during a tumultuous time frame. I have published a novel The Maury Chronicles as well as the short story "Maury the Mouse."
