An avian invasion threatens a troubled family’s survival. Three adult siblings - estranged - re-unite at their deceased parents' beach house. There they are besieged by birds gone berserk, led by giant killer penguins.

A vulture kills a newborn baby. The story, picked up by a wire service, is the last item Miriam Segal reads before she's killed in a skiing accident, along with her husband, Stan. Their 3 adult children decide to visit their beach house one last time before putting it up for sale.

While sailing to safety aboard their brother-in-laws ketch, the Segals are offered assistance by a Coast Guard helicopter crew. Attacked from the air by gulls, skuas and gannets, and from the sea by giant penguins, the chopper is destroyed, the sailboat sunk, and only the children survive.
