Accuracy of Book Profile

The profile is pretty reflective of the story. The logline is a bit too long and may be better suited for the short summary. The mention that Madie works at the centre is not needed twice as it is not as relevant to the story although it does add depth to her character. Cody is also listed as a protagonist when he is more of a main character and Madie is the only protagonist. Given that Chelsea has more chapters from her third person POV she is more of a secondary protagonist than Cody. The pitch does a good job establishing the themes of the story that are marketable.

Draw of Story

Madie's history and dreams mixing together is a compelling concept with a surprising direction in that she has to solve her own murder while being a different person. It is both complicated and ultimately simplified in a satisfying manner.

Possible Drawbacks

There are different viewpoints in different chapters which can delay the pacing of Madie's main conflict. For example, Chelsea's relationship with Chaz is not really relevant at such length with Madie finding her past. Focusing more on Madie could help keep the momentum consistent or at least shortening other exposition scenes not related to her might also be a solution.

Use of Special Effects

Primary Hook of Story

The hook is that Madie has to find her own killer after memories start popping up of her past life. It is similar to a ghost solving their own mystery but a fresher concept where the protagonist is able to be more proactive.

Fanbase Potential

This could have a decent sized fanbase for those that are a fan of psychological thrillers involving romantic relationships. It is unlikely to be a blockbuster but could fare well with women.

Awards Potential

Given its genre this is unlikely to have much awards sway but there is a slight chance this could do okay commercially.

What’s New About the Story

The story's originality stems from the premise that Madie is a reincarnated murder victim. Focusing more on Madie solving her own case and less on interpersonal relationships could help keep the tension building.

Lead Characters

Madie is curious, determined and sometimes immature. Cody is supportive, playful and strong. Chelsea is mindful and supportive.

Uniqueness of Story

This has some neat elements and character details such as geriatric pregnancy, but the length of the subplot scene lengths can distract from the main conflict. Many of the side characters are static.

Film: Studio, Indie, Streaming TV Series: Limited Run / Mini-Series

Analyst Recommendation

While the story has many positive points, it has room for improvement (see possible paths below). If you can't change the story at this point, my suggestion is using your notes as a guide to highlight the best aspects of it when taking the next steps, either putting a pitch page together, a treatment, or a presentation.

Tips for Improvement

Shortening scenes with more purposeful dialogue with nuance about plot development rather than character dynamic development could help make the pacing feel quicker as the momentum would build more consistently. Giving the side characters inner conflicts would also help increase emotional investment in their involvement within the main conflict. Focusing more on Madie solving the case could also help make the pacing feel more driven.
