Bigger Gangsters follows Denny through the summer of 1969 during his rise in the Di Napoli crime family in Vancouver, British Columbia. Denny has two industries that are making him moderately wealthy; by day he is in the joy business, running 72 dealers selling pot and hash to the growing hippie community, and by night the despair business, operating an illegal casino for the Di Napoli family with his partner Frankie Marrone. Denny and Frankie answer to Vic ‘the Gentleman’ Ciccone, their crew chief, but they must keep the drug dealing from him as the family is traditional and doesn’t allow drugs or prostitution in their ranks. Other than his secret income, Denny has two problems. The first is his desire to tap into the heroin trade that would increase his income tenfold, but the supply is locked up by Vancouver’s Triad, headed by the dangerous Mr Cho, the Triad’s 489, Mountain Master. The second problem is that Denny is in love with Carrie, the love of his life and a heroin addicted prostitute. Denny believes he can deal heroin and help Carrie wean off her addiction at the same time, and his plan may have worked if it wasn’t for the Dark Riders bike gang, who wants to take it all from him. A period action piece that lends itself to some of the most iconic music of the 60’s generation and features a tragic love story, Bigger Gangsters stands to become the American Graffiti of the crime world.
