Only Human is a story of mankind's place in the universe. After 'first contact', a cultural exchange takes place, and Archaeologist Edgar Blake and his companions are invited to the alien world Velos - a 'utopia'. But all is not what it seems. The Velosians have a hidden agenda!

- The action, adventure and interpersonal relationships in a sci-fi genre are intriguing and would be fun to watch. Aliens with their own culture, technology, and abilities are elements that are present and inherent to the best of the genre.
- Aliens vs. humans, if done well, is always exciting cinema. This story, with its strong interpersonal relationships, also has substories that keep it emotionally intriguing against exciting special effects.
- Good interpersonal relationships and exciting visuals that haven't been seen before. If adapted into series, plenty of drama for cliffhangers to propel a show to the next episode.
- Key points: Aliens; New technologies; Intriguing characters; War; Special abilities.

Synopsis

BLAKE, 48, wonders if he is awake, dead or dreaming, since he can see all the other passengers still in deep sleep. They are heading to the planet Velos as part of a cultural exchange of humans and Velosians. Velosians are seven feet tall and dark skinned with Asian-like eyes and long hair. Instead of sleeping, they meditate. CALGOR, 160, is the oldest Velosian, and is in control of their spaceship with its human cargo. Calgor explains to Blake that he had an out of body experience, something the Velosians used to be able to do at will. The Velosians communicate through telepathy. They are led by a supreme council headed by Calgor. All the passengers are brought out of their induced sleep and escorted to their rooms where they can see videos of Velosian life, and note that they never seen any Velosians smile. MIGUEL, a human/Velosian hybrid, and part of the cultural exchange of humans, senses the Velosians were probing his mind deeper than he was allowing. The Velosians were interested in Blake’s out of body experience and are interested in a man named TENG, a 150 year old blind psychic monk on earth who has secret knowledge. Reaching Velos, the spaceship approaches one of several giant cities that hover high up in the sky. Far below on the ground, a castle is modelled after medieval architecture from Earth. There they meet SHEA, 20, Calgor’s daughter, and enter the Inner Sanctum a chamber where the Velosian council of Elders sit in robes sit. The humans are invited to sit, and many questions are answered by the hosts. Blake’s cat Tut is released from its cage; cats being revered on Velos.

The human’s sleeping chambers are sparse and they are given Velosian clothing to wear. Miguel goes into a cleansing room, and finds Shea, naked. He’s embarrassed but she assuages him. The humans are taken in a flying craft down into a huge canyon. They ask where the Velosian children are, but are informed that there are none. They are the last of their kind. The humans are shocked by this. They fly around and see more cities, and run into another group of humans here on the exchange program. They ask about a third group that is there as well and the answers they get from the Velosians make them uneasy when they ask to meet the other humans. Back in their quarters, Blake and Susan make love.

New York. At the UN, a doctor gives his report on the makeup of Velosians. They have one lung and two hearts but nothing in their bodies is harmful to humans. They don’t feel pain and communicate telepathically because their vocal chords only used in sacred prayer. Some have had surgery to increase their vocal capacity. Back on Velos, the humans are taken to a subterranean tunnel system. They go through stone tunnels until they come to what looks like a subway tunnel, with a craft that takes them 5 miles deeper into the structure. Susan is amazed by writing she sees on the walls, which appear to be like human hieroglyphs. They see a vast cavern with machines that provide power to the planet. Droids fix the machines. There are more caverns like this. Then, they are taken to an ancient underground city which has pyramids and a floor of water. This is a sacred place that contains the spirits of the Ancient Ones.” Being a rare “sensitive,” Shea meditates here and receives visions of the future. The Velosians do not dwell in the past; it is forbidden. Back at the castle, the humans discuss the disappearance of the other groups, and Calgor confirms they are missing and he is looking into it. Privately, Calgor and Shea talk about “The Chosen One,” who is Blake, and the future of their species. Blake and Miguel talk about Blake’s vivid dreams and they surmise that Teng connected with Blake upon his death bed and may be trying to speak to him through his dreams - and it may be a warning.

The humans are taken to another city and view the tombs of the elders. Susan snaps pictures of all the writing on the walls. They visit the Chamber of Statues, where hundreds of stone statues of Velosians, cats and short dwarf-like creatures fill the room. Then there is a rumbling and Shea gets them out of there. Large rat-like creatures swarm toward them. They’re pained by the light, and the group is able to herd them into the Chamber using their torches. Then they realize the whole place is flooding. With Sheas visions they find a secret door that leads into a golden chamber. The water rushes in. Inside, they find a golden staircase. Susan snaps pictures of the writing around the spiral staircase, and Shea says she’s found the “truth” then collapses. Miguel catches her and says she is fatigued from using her psychic abilities - he knows this from using his own psychic powers. They discover a Rosetta stone-like translation of the writings and Shea wakes up and begins to read, telling Miguel that it’s an ancient prophecy that mentions Blake. The water level rises and they ascend the seemingly never ending stairs; having to rest at times. At the top they spend the night in a cave and a large lizard-like creature enters. Shea’s telepathic communication with it, sees it vanishing off into the woods. In the morning, they emerge into a jungle and make their way to their craft as guards paralyze a huge bird-like creature that swooped down on them.

In a secret location in New York, Dr Curtis and Dr Schaefer lead a secret meeting of scientists who were dismissed from their consultation on the Velosians. They think an invasion is imminent. Back on Velos, the party is returned to the castle. Calgor senses Shea’s dismay. She has found out a truth; that the people who lived here before them were forced to live underground by her ancestors. Velosians experimented on them and had a hand in their extinction. The Velosian history as they know it is a lie. She question the sustainability of the Velosian race as it is. Blake is taken on an astral journey by Teng, where he is shown the real agenda of the Velosians - they are taking human bodies and replacing their souls with Velosians so they may live on since their race is dying. Their experiments are not 100% successful, however; they find that only human children can produce that level of success needed to save the Velosian race. Shea is taken down to the crystal cave of The Wise Ones where she begins her initiation with the first of five Wise One’s knowledge, an initiation that when finished, will see her take over as head of the Supreme Council. The Veloisans are barren and dying - there are maybe 10,000 left and they are using the human race to repopulate. She stops the initiation and protests to her father, she is confined to her room under guard. She must somehow warn the humans. She overhears her father’s telepathy with another Velosian – that if Shea doesn’t comply she will be destroyed like her mother was. Shea is devastated.

Miguel and Blake go to Susan’s room and find she has been forcibly taken. The same goes for Leo. Shea is with Miguel and Blake when they are taken, but by using her powers, she seemingly renders herself invisible to the guards and follows them. Her father surprises her with his awareness of her presence and she is eventually taken and prepared to be killed like her mother was. Blake communes with Teng who can see him through Blake’s cat. Shea is prepared for the afterlife by Edra, her old teacher, who is a friend and helps her feign death. Once again in the Astral Planes, Blake, listens as the Supreme Council prepares for war with Earth.

In a mansion in England, the group od dissident scientists who want to resist the Velosians have gathered, including Dr Curtis, Dr Schaefer, Dr Clayton and Dr Rashid. Dr Rashid has developed a drug that will block Velosian’s telepathic and mind control abilities. He brings out Asha, a human-Velosian hybrid, who tested it on a Velosian and said it works. On Velos, Edra, Shea, Miguel, Susan, Blake, and Leo steal a ship and fly it down to the ground and hide in the underworld. They’re followed, and their ship crashes, cracking in two. Blake is alone with broken bones and the forest's creatures are hunting him. The group comes to a huge field of flowers thought to be extinct. Shea communes with them and is pointed to Blake’s body. Shea and Miguel try to heal him but can only do so much. Then, hundreds of creatures surround them. It’s a hunting party. Another craft descends and four guards get out and challenge the creatures but are killed. The party moves along until it’s confronted by another group of creatures that Shea is able to communicate with and they leave. They take the ship and fly into a forbidden zone that is full of enormous pyramids. They land in a canyon so Blake can rest. Shea gets psychic messages from the multitudes of the souls who died here mining crystals so the Velosians could prosper and progress.

In the English mansion, the group of dissident scientists find out that their leaders have already tested the serum on them without their knowledge. There’s a great protest, but the serum worked because Asha was not able to read their thoughts. A Dr Bernstein quells the protest by comparing the Velosian’s plans to that of the Nazis. On Velos, Shea, Miguel and Edra contact a Velosian who will be able to sabotage one of two ships that are supposed to take the Velosians to Earth to take over. In England, the resistance group is captured by the military under the direction of the Velosians. On Velos, the group of rebels board the vessel that will take them to earth, avoiding anyone who is not on their side. Shea will stay, and Miguel wants to stay with her since they have formed a strong bond. The interstellar craft tries to leave, but is fired upon by Calgor and his vessels. The rebel ship appears to be destroyed, but its occupants wake up and are told by their captain Golan that the ship has gone in between dimensions and they are safe for now. Blake’s astral form is thrown out of his body and is in the phantom zone, but he is able to communicate with Teng, who helps him return to his body. The craft eventually begins to stabilize and become a solid structure again.

On Earth, Asha is on a mission to save the dissident scientists who have been taken away. We learn that the Velosians have a project in which they will use children as their vessels, replacing a child’s soul with a Velosian’s until they have replaced every Velosian. In an airplane hangar, Asha and Forbes manage to subdue the Velosians, overcome the military men, and save their friends Dr Curtis, Dr Rashid, and Dr Clayton. On Velos, now with over 50 rebels hiding in the pyramids, Shea and Miguel have sex. In the interstellar vessel commanded by Golan, they go through three worm holes before arriving in Earth’s orbit. Edra wakes up Susan, Blake and Leo. Golan warns that there is another vessel in orbit. To their surprise, It’s Calgor’s; his interstellar craft destroyed it should have taken him five years to arrive at Earth in the old craft. They surmise that Golan’s craft had time travelled five years into the future. Earth is now attacking Calgor’s ship, but it goes into cloaking mode and escapes. Golan takes his ship to Central Park and cloaks it to allow Blake, Susan and Leo to disembark. They head toward the police station in the park where they’re identified and fed and clothed. The Secretary of the UN shows up and he arranges a meeting at the U.N.

Calgor and his lieutenant Lorrick notice strange but familiar signals from around the globe. They go to one, and find it is a little boy - a Velosian in human form. He explains to Calgor that when the Velosians first came to Earth nearly eight years ago, although the Velosian plan for survival was thwarted, they had secretly managed to transmute nine children into Velosians.The boy explains that they made these signaling devices after the Velosians lost contact with them. At a highly secure Velosian holding facility, the nine children smuggle themselves in and use their collective minds (which are more powerful than any Velosians before them) to free some of the 99 imprisoned aliens. Asha is able to detect them and tells the commander to have everyone take their pills that block Velosian mind control. Velosians escape the facility and are taken into their cloaked ship while military helicopters fire on them. The helicopters are completely destroyed. Also in the facility, Susan and Leo find Blake full of guilt and completely drunk in his room. At a different facility in Arkansas, Calgor’s ship kidnaps 190 children who have the highest IQs on Earth and transfer Velosian minds into their bodies and put them back. They then go to India where another school of gifted children will be kidnapped and converted.

Golan figures out that they can detect Calgor’s ship by its ionized trail even when cloaked. They head to India and catch up with it. Using new weapons that the humans have reverse engineered from Velosian technology, they fire on Calgor’s ship, then re-cloak and head in another direction. Calgor is intent on destroying Golan’s ship and is almost willing to risk all the lives on his ship to do so, but decides against it at the last minute. Deressa, one of Calgor’s spies on the ground, has found out that the humans have developed a biological weapon that will target the Velosian’s weak immune systems. As she’s communicating this from the Indian school, Blake finds her and she is captured. But that night Deressa is rescued and Blake is abducted from the school. Golan follows Calgor and thinks he has destroyed his ship, but the fatal blow comes from another ship - which Shea and Miguel are on. Calgor is almost dead and Shea tells him she is pregnant. Calgor dies. Blake is in a coma after being flung out of Calgors craft. He taken back to Velos to heal. Shea takes over as the head of the Supreme council on Velos. Miguel becomes the ambassador to Earth to find a way that both species can live together and help one another. Blake stays in a coma until they figure out that music and his favourite song would reach him. Then the true meaning of the prophecy is revealed; that it is Miguel and not Blake whom the prophecy speaks of - since it was he, that was able to impregnate Shea and she conceive. A new future for both species is discovered.

Anthony kee was born in Lancashire England, where he still lives and works. A happy family man, he loves to read and write, and published his first book 'The Chronicles of Teng' in 2014. This book was first conceived ten years earlier, where a series of strange events were to inspire him into writing his first draft. It was saved to his hard drive, and yes...forgotten about! Children having flown the nest, and work now less demanding, he finds himself in a position to devote more time to his lifelong passion - writing. He has now finished his second book - 'Only Human' - which is a sequel to 'The Chronicles of Teng', however; it can still be read as a book in it's own right.
