Ytubu's figure is quite strong. The birth of this baby in a family with such an abundant culture, love, and traditions and still bringing hope for the race, is something that draws us to the story immediately. The author uses an almost epic, mythological tone, which makes the whole experience of the book more poetic, grandiose.

Because it has a somewhat mythological tone in some parts, reading is a little confusing at times, but nothing that really gets in the way of our experience.

The story is quite original because it is told almost like mythology. Ytubu is the central myth of the narrative that recounts the history of slavery through the figure of a single man. The epic tone of accomplishments and events elevates it to an even more original outcome.

Ytubu is a solid and impactful figure. Although the narrative offers him heroic powers that transform him into a myth, Ytubu's struggle is also the struggle of the entire black race, a legion of ordinary people who fought for survival in completely hostile situations. This strength seen in ordinary beings and elevated to a heroic, mythological character raises an entire race's struggle even more to a heroic proportion. Everyone in the history of slavery ended up being also presented as the hero of their own stories. The secondary characters provide the support and antagonism necessary for Ytubu to shine.

It is a rare gem due to the epic tone of the narrative, the placing of a black man in the center of a mythological tale, and the figure of a man as a visual representation of centuries of history.

The central character is a powerful figure and a visual representation of a struggle that lasted for centuries and still leaves its mark on society. The mythical tone of the narrative, epic, is attractive because here, it places a black man as the protagonist of this history. Ytubu is a source of empathy and makes us reflect on history as a whole in a natural, organic way. Giving almost non-human characteristics to some characters, such as the mentor who, from above, assists Ytubu in this sad chapter of history, and of the white race, presented here as cruel, impure non-human beings, is of a very effective fantastic realism of representation. Despite causing some strangeness at first, the jump in time uses elements of Greek mythology, where "gods" would assist the hero on his journey. Ytubu is taken almost lifeless from a storm, healed for years, and sent two hundred years after that moment to resume his story. This jump in time helps us to understand the changes in terms of slavery throughout the centuries. In the 19th century, when the topic of liberation was already beginning to be discussed, Ytubu knows the unfolding of history, in which white men start to see the black race as an equal one, in the figure of the character Franklin. Obviously, the adaptation would require a lot of historical research to retell this period more accurately, and the narrative structure would need further development. However, the tone, the narrative style, the author's intriguing writing, and the characters are worthy of consideration.
