Development Pitch
Bridgerton with vampires...Twilight during the time of Jane Austen... Mash-up two of the most popular romance tropes (Regency-era England and the undead) in a dark, sexy, compelling story of redemption...with a unique vampire mythology that goes beyond one story. What if the Duke of Hastings was a vampire, part of a secret vampire underground in London in the 1800s? What if he fell for a mortal woman who has the Sight—and who has no idea immortal vampires exist? What if her brother is a vampire hunter, who's vowed to stake him on sight? And what if there are even more vampires who are determined to abduct her for their own nefarious purposes? Balls, corsets, stakes, and carriages...all meld together in a lush, evocative and compelling story of redemption and passionate love.

Accuracy of Book Profile
Instead of relying so heavily on comparisons to other works, this book profile could be improved by elaborating more on the unique and original details of this project itself. Making too many comparisons could actually hinder this project’s appeal, as people viewing the book profile could write the project off as being too similar to other popular films and books.
Draw of Story
The writer’s sheer talent drew me into this story immediately. The dialogue felt realistic and appropriate for the story, the lore was imaginative and well described, and the descriptions were immersive and engaging. I found it easy to fall quickly into the world of these characters, thanks to the vibrant and memorable writing style.
Possible Drawbacks
Angelica’s characterization was a little frustrating at times. Voss is such a dynamic and detailed character, and it felt like Angelica was sometimes more surface level. Her Sight is a particularly interesting character detail, but it sometimes fades into the background. Her love for Voss also develops fairly quickly at the end. Getting more insight into Angelica’s emotional journey, just as readers get with Voss, would make her stand on her own as a stronger, more nuanced character.
Use of Special Effects
THE STORY RELIES A LITTLE BIT ON SPECIAL EFFECTS
Primary Hook of Story
The steamy romance at the core of this film would certainly be the initial hook. However, the vivid world building and the action-packed plot would hook viewers as well.
Fanbase Potential
Absolutely. Though the book is quite mature in nature, a film adaptation could work well in the young adult genre, which is very popular and has dedicated fans. The similarities to Twilight could also help earn this film a fanbase.
Awards Potential
If adapted, it feels more likely that this project would exist either as a CW-style television show, or as a big-budget blockbuster, so it’s not likely to garner Awards attention, but that’s more because of the genre than the merits of the project.
Envisioned Budget
MEDIUM BUDGET
Similar Films/TV Series
THE TWILIGHT SERIES. THERE’S NO QUESTION THAT THIS PROJECT WOULD BE COMPARED TO IT. IT ALSO HAS SIMILARITIES TO BRIDGERTON AND EVEN THE CROWN.
What’s New About the Story
While this project bears external similarities to other works, it is actually very unique and original as it stands now. The lore is highly original, and the characters feel generally different from other similar ones. Developing Angelica in more detail and giving her more of a voice would help this work stand out from other romance projects though.
Lead Characters
Voss undergoes an exciting and fulfilling emotional journey in this project. He stands out because of his style and confidence initially, but later he stands out because of his unexpected depth and his capacity to change. Angelica’s Sight makes her stand out. It’s an idea with endless story potential.
Uniqueness of Story
This project is a rare gem. The writing alone makes it stand above other projects in the genre. The idea, while similar to others on the surface, is actually refreshingly original. It offers a new take on the vampire genre.
Possible Formats
Film: Studio, Indie, Streaming TV Series: Cable, Streaming
Analyst Recommendation
CONSIDER
Justification
For all the reasons noted above – the beautiful writing, the steamy romance, the excellent lore and world-building, and the strong franchise potential.
Brief
Voss, a wealthy playboy of a vampire, is content to live as a hedonistic outsider, until he meets Angelica, the sister of a vampire hunter, and falls in love.
What We Liked
There’s a lot to love about this project. The vampire lore is unique, original, and very detailed.
Though this project is reminiscent of other popular works, it stands on its own as an impressive and engaging creation. The world of this story feels vast and full of energy. The plot takes unexpected twists and turns and contains thrilling action sequences. And the love story at the core of this piece is extremely steamy. Voss and Angelica have extraordinary sexual chemistry, and the writing in the book makes their interactions feel charged and high stakes at every turn.
Film: This film would have excellent franchise potential, which automatically makes it a great option for a film adaption. But Dark Rogue still features on contained story with a clear beginning, middle, and end, which would make the first film a satisfying watch on its own.
Though the world is imaginative and lush with detail, it could be adapted with a reasonable budget, which means it’s not a great risk for financiers. The possibility of drawing in young adult audiences also means this project could have a wide appeal.
TV: This project combines a lot of elements that are already popular on television. The wealth and glamor of Bridgerton are on full display with the characters in Dark Rogue, and the love story at the core provides a strong foundation for the rest of the series. There are a number of fascinating characters and nuanced storylines introduced, which would make a television adaption perfect, as the writers of the series would never run out of potential stories to dive into.
Key points:
1. Steamy romance and great chemistry between the lead characters.
2. Vivid worldbuilding.
3. Plot filled with action, twists and turns.
4. Thrilling action sequences.
5. High stakes both in the action and the romance.
Synopsis
When their brother, Chas, a vampire hunter with bonds to non threatening vampires, goes missing, the Woodmore sisters are put into the protection of a vampire named Corvindale.
Because of their brother’s work, the Woodmore sisters are in danger of being killed. When Voss, another Draculian vampire, meets Corvindale’s newest wards, sisters Angelica and Maia Woodmore, he is immediately drawn to Angelica. They have an undeniable chemistry, and Angelica is no standard woman. At a ball, Angelica warns Voss and his friend Brickbank that she’s recently had a dream of his death. And he was wearing the same clothes he wears today. Because it’s difficult for a vampire to die, Brickbank and Voss shake off the warning.
But Angelica is right. In a freak accident, Brickbank dies that very same night. Angelica’s visions, her Sight, predict the moment of death. She also uses these visions to make money and alert potential brides to the future deaths of their prospective husbands. Voss seeks Angelica after Brickbank’s death. She believes that Brickbank was destined to die and nothing could have prevented his death. Corvindale informs Voss that he’s been chosen to escort Brickbank’s body back to Romania.
At a masquerade ball, Angelica dances with a masked man she believes to be Voss.
When he attacks her though, she realizes her mistake and fights back. The man flees, and Angelica finds the real Voss. He bribed someone else to travel to Romania. Angelica and Voss share a steamy moment, but he pulls away. Angelica tells him about the man that attacked her and Voss realizes that Cezar Moldavi has moved faster than expected. His men appear at the party, intent on kidnapping one of the Woodmore sisters. Belial, one of Moldavi’s makes, demands that they step forward. They remain hidden and Voss convinces Belial to leave.
Afterwards, Voss convinces Angelica to come stay with him at Rubey’s. It’s not safe for her to stay in the same place as Maia. Angelica agrees, but when they realize that this place isn’t safe either, they go on the move again, arriving at Black Maude’s.
Voss finally explains what’s going on to Angelica. Chas, her brother, took Moldavi’s sister, Narcise. He may have kidnapped her, or they may have eloped. But either way,
Moldavi won’t rest until he’s gotten his sister back, and he’ll use Angelica or Maia as leverage if he has to. Angelica tells Voss the full truth about her power. She knows Chas is okay. He won’t die until he’s very old. Angelica and and Voss give in to their desires for each other, but it goes too far when Voss bites Angelica and struggles to control himself. He leaves her alone and says he’s going to call for Corvindale. Corvindale and Maia arrive, both horrified to learn that Voss has bitten Angelica. Even though Angelica is intact, they know they need to preserve her reservation. Corvindale vows to take down Voss. Maia takes social calls for them so that Angelica will keep her reputation in high society. At Corvindale’s home, Voss sneaks in to talk to Angelica for a final time. He tells her he’ll leave for good if she tells him when he’s going to die. She admits that she didn’t see any death in his future. He leaves, and Angelica and Maia are surprised when their brother, Chas, comes by the house as well. He says that alongside Corvindale and their mutual friend Cale, they are going to track Voss down and kill him.
Voss flees, with only a watch chain and a letter bidding him farewell from Angelica.
Meanwhile, Angelica and her carriage on the way to a ball is attacked. Belial kidnaps her.
Upon hearing of Angelica’s kidnapping, Voss, Corvindale, Chas, and Maia put their differences aside and work together to get her back. With the rest of the group following behind, Voss travels to Paris to speak with Moldavi and rescue Angelica. When Voss arrives in Paris, he meets with Moldavi and sees Angelica. He toasts with Moldavi, but realizes that the drink contains Hyssop syrup, the one thing other than a beheading or a stake to the chest that could kill Voss. He miscalculated. Voss is able to cause an explosion and distract Moldavi. He and Angelica flee. They escape and spend an evening safe in bedchambers. Voss tells Angelica everything, and their bond grows ever closer as they make love. However, Chas bursts into the room, furious and ready to kill Voss. Angelica manages to talk him out of it. She is in love with Voss. Chas leaves, taking Angelica with him and leaving Voss injured.
Alone in the bedchamber, Voss is in pain and in a terrible state. He sees a woman dangling from the balcony. With his last act of strength, he saves the woman. He closes his eyes to die. Angelica is back home with Maia. Soon, she is to become engaged to Harrington, her previous suitor. But she can’t stop thinking about Voss. Voss miraculously survives and comes to Angelica before the engagement. They reconcile. They want to be together. Voss visits Corvindale and tells him that he and Angelica plan to wed. He also reveals that his mark with Lucifer has disappeared. He changed. In a way he did die, and in doing so, he broke his evil covenant. Together at last, Angelica and Voss look towards the future.
