Logline

A gypsy wisewoman foretells an incredible future for young Jeannie Main, a fisher lass of Nairn, She will face the gallows four times, [To save herself, her friends and family, she does] She'll make a king and break a king, but will she dare ride the terrible water monster, the kelpie? Jeannie falls in love with a young Jacobite officer, but causes Prince Charles to lose the Battle of Culloden. When her father is crippled by his enemy, she learns that if you can ride the kelpie it must grant your wishes. With help from the gypsies, who aid her to gain the Horseman's Word, she does ride it in a wild stampede across the moor, and aske it to cure her father and save her family and her wounded lover from death and disastrous illness. Unknown to her, it's actually a redcoat officer's horse; she gives it to her lover to carry him home. After her final, and most dangerous, encounter with the risk of hanging, by the officer whose horse she has stolen, she returns home to find all the family starting to recover.

Short Summary

Jeannie's fisherman father is badly hurt fighting his rival, Duggie Ralph, to help the local gypsies, in return, a gypsy woman offers help, and an incredible warning of future danger. Jeannie becomes a maid to Baillie Clark, and Duggie cripples her father just as Prince Charles lands to lead his rebellion.
