Short Summary

When Ruby Adams stands in the wings of the Strand Theater awaiting her cue, she believes her fame before the footlights of the theater is coming to an end and a career in the nascent movie industry is beginning. But as the aging equipment used to raise the stage fails...misfortune strikes.

Ruby wins her courtcase against the theater owners, but in a twist they cannot collect on the judgment. Her lawyer uncovers that the theater was secretly sold to Paramount, but exhausted Ruby decides not to pursue. She & John Davis travel to Agua Caliente, MX. & make a risky bet that pays off.
