An old African American grandmother tries to instill spiritual values in her willful naïve granddaughter before she dies, but Sugar would need more than old wives’ tales for her Gen-X, dirty-south world, she would need faith of her own.

Short Summary

“Badass Christian” follows Sugar and her life as a girl adopted at birth into a provincial Southern black religious family. Developing an identity that is flawed with hypocrisy due to observing and duplicating the behavior of the adults around her, Sugar finds herself withdrawing from her religion.

Covering a wide range of emotions while presenting readers with a bit of Biblical wisdom, Alexander works to entertain readers while showing them that the grace of God is sufficient for a self-proclaimed “Badass Christian.”
