Accuracy of Book Profile

Yes, the book profile accurately reflects the book.

Draw of Story

The story is begins with Pete beginning his career as a young, naïve cop but he mentions that he ends up in prison. Its sets the tone of the story. He also becomes a cop during the height of crack cocaine in NYC and his stories are vibrant and interesting.

Possible Drawbacks

The story focuses on a police officer working in NYC during the war on drugs. He is a white man policing a predominantly black and brown community. There are two sides to the story and the way drugs were brought into those communities and destroyed many lives is not touched on. The main goal of the story is to tell Pete's story which doesn't allow for many other perspectives.

Use of Special Effects

THE STORY DOES NOT RELY ON SPECIAL EFFECTS

Primary Hook of Story

The hook is that Pete's promising career in narcotics takes a drastic turn when he ends up in prison. I would watch the movie for the downfall of a New York City police officer. Many stories around cops at the moment put them on a pedestal, but this shows a different perspective.

Fanbase Potential

This could have a large fanbase. Stories about police officers are not very popular at the moment especially considering the current cultural climate. This story could be interesting because it shows police can fall but this story focuses more on the corruption in law enforcement. Pete is dealt a harsh hand considering his actual crimes.

Awards Potential

This could have awards potential. The events of Pete's life and the dramatic moments would translate well on screen with the right director and actor. It is character driven with many great moments for acting.

What’s New About the Story

The story is original because it shows a cop being taken down by the system. Pete isn't a crooked cop and decides not to snitch on his fellow cops. He doesn't get off easy as he has made some enemies in law enforcement. That is a refreshing story considering the current headlines.

Lead Characters

The lead character starts off as a newbie cop and progresses to an aggressive, undercover veteran. He is not a bad cop but he made poor choices that land him in prison. There is more complexities to his character.

Uniqueness of Story

This is not a rare gem. This is a solid story that shows a different perspective on law enforcements and those who lose favor within its' system. For the current climate, there should be less focus on the drug dealers and users Pete arrest because of the polarizing view of people of color. More focus could be on his interaction with his colleagues and how that lays the groundwork for his stint in prison.

Analyst Recommendation

CONSIDER

Justification

This is a consider because the story is well written and entertaining. It takes a raw look at a crazy time in NYC where crack cocaine was everywhere. The story, however, does lead the audience to sympathize with police officers which would face criticism in the current climate. This might deter from gaining a large fanbase for the story. The representation of people of color would also face much backlash. There might not be a market for a story but it has promise.
