Development Pitch
Returning home late one night in Nairobi, a young couple stumbles upon a briefcase filled with cash and decide to take it home, unaware that it is being sought after by two rival gangs of ruthless poachers, the police, and a powerful government official. Fearful of being cast as the suspect, Jay the protagonist, and his wife Heidi are caught up in dilemma, and decide to hold on to the cash. But the fearsome ivory poacher, who goes by the name of ‘Tusker,’ and who had snatched the briefcase from his rival to settle a score, only to lose it during a hot police chase, is now on a relentless hunt for Jay. With equal ferocity, the rival poacher ‘Don’ hunts down a Russian arms dealer, who he suspects is involved in the snatch. Meanwhile, mystery surrounds the discovery of the badly mutilated body of a young British tourist in one of the world’s largest game reserve. Local officials attributed her death to her being mauled by wild animals. But a detective from Scotland Yard, specially flown down to investigate, isn’t too sure. As the ruthless players close in on the unwitting Jay, he finds himself enmeshed in a larger dangerous conspiracy. Set in the idyllic surroundings of the mile-high “Green City under the Sun” of Nairobi, and the famous Game Reserve in East Africa, from where the word ‘safari’ originates, the 90,000-word international thriller captures the conflict that the stolen briefcase and the death in the Mara creates among the multicultural characters involved.
