Development Pitch
The Second Civil War would make an outstanding film. It has all of the key elements, a powerful message, a love story, action and characters the audience can identify with. It is written in diary form which will make it easy to adapt into a screenplay. It includes rich, humorous and thoughtful dialogue. I worked with Gene Siskel during my days in TV news and he taught me the most important things about filmmaking were to create characters people care about and a story that had a powerful message. I think The Second Civil War accomplishes both of those things. Everyone who has read the book says it has gotten them to think about the course America is on. And the fact several people are asking me to write a sequel tells me they want more of this story. The film is also set in Chicago and the Midwest which gives it a unique perspective and flavor. Each location described in the book is an actual town in the United States and filming it would be as simple as following the plotline. The Second Civil War is also unique in that it does not have the usual happy Hollywood ending and is filled with twists and turns as you go along. This is the kind of movie people come out of and talk about all the way home.
